BRC Imaging and FACS Facility

BRC

For the past year a BRC-funded facility has been based within the Section of Infectious Diseases and Immunity, offering state of the art imaging and cell-sorting for patient-based cell phenotype and imaging studies. The facility was fortunate in creating an experienced immunologist to oversee the experimental work, Dr Anna Ettorre. The Facility is currently equipped with a customized BD FACS Aria II multi-parameter cell sorter and a Leica TCS-SP5 Confocal Microscope. Several groups, drawn from the Hammersmith Hospital Campus and elsewhere in the AHSC, have utilized the BRC facility. Key users have been drawn from diverse specialties and with diverse applications for multi-parameter sorting and phenotypic analysis including the groups of Danny Altmann (Infectious Diseases and Immunity), Federica Marelli-Berg (Immunology), Paolo Muraro (Neuroscience), Nicholas Mazarakis (Gene Therapy), Martin Wilkins (Experimental Medicine), Tassos Karadimitris (Haematology), Katy Rezvani (Haematology), Shiranee Sriskandan (Infectious Diseases and Immunity) and Guido Franzoso (Inflammation and Signal Transduction). Since Dr Ettorre’s appointment to the Facility, the FACS ARIA has been booked and utilized to capacity.

The mission for the Facility over the coming year is to generate a higher and more visible profile, attracting more users across Imperial College AHSC, and share our expertise in order to perform cutting edge translational research.
