Centre for Neuroscience

Our Mission

The mission of the Centre for Neuroscience is to:

1. Further the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of neurological disorders.

2. Promote the translation of novel discoveries to the bedside.

The Centre for Neuroscience is led by Professor David Brooks. It is divided into four main sections:

The main achievements and future plans of the Centre are described in the relevant section pages.

The Wolfson Neuroscience Laboratories (WNL) comprises cellular and molecular neuroscience targeting inflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders. The clinical neuroscience section is multidisciplinary containing a number of different groups where clinical expertise is combined with basic neuroscience and appropriate technology. An example of such linkages is the world class human brain imaging and the transgenic animal facilites available.

We have successfully bid for two national brain tissue banks jointly funded by the Parkinson’s Disease Society and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
