Abnormal Regulation of Complement
Glomerular C3 staining in dense deposit disease
Abnormal regulation of complement (complement dysregulation) is associated with renal diseases, including atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome and dense deposit disease. In most cases complement dysregulation is due to mutations in complement regulators (loss of function) or activators (gain of function). We have developed experimental models of these conditions to try to understand how the kidney damage develops. We also utilise these models to perform ‘proof of concept’ treatment studies.
