Department of Medicine

Section of Immunobiology

The Section of Immunobiology is located in the Commonwealth Building on the Hammersmith Campus of Imperial College. It is comprised of  13 Principle Investigators and 70 staff.

We work on the biological basis of the immune response, which includes:

  • T lymphocytes
  • immunological memory
  • cell death
  • transplantation
  • tumour immunology
  • lymphocyte trafficking
  • autoimmunity
  • viral immunology

The research is supported by programs from a variety of public and private agencies including the MRC, Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK, BBSRC, Leukaemia Research Fund, British Heart Foundation and the NIH. Translation of research findings is made possible by clinical and commercial collaborations within Imperial College and other agencies with the UK and abroad.

The Section of Immunobiology performs an important teaching role within Imperial College.  It is responsible for delivering the MSc course in Immunology and is a core contributor to the intercalated BSc in Immunology, PhD in Immunology and the Immunology Short Course.
