The project, which is a consortium involves a number of partners across Europe including the WHO, The University Medical Center, Freiburg, Germany and The University of Geneva. The project consists of a number of work packages (1) a systematic review of current guidelines for prevention of HAI, and schemes for surveillance and public reporting of HAI in European countries (2) a large survey of EU hospitals on current practice for HAI prevention, enabling factors and barriers to compliance with guidelines, and relationship of these factors to infection control outcomes (3) an in-depth study in a sample of hospitals, of factors influencing the adoption and implementation of infection control practices at multiple levels, (4) a randomized effectiveness trial of two interventions in a sample of hospitals, focusing on determinants of compliance with the intervention and (5) a synthesis of findings of the project for dissemination of recommendations to policy makers, managers and healthcare staff
CIPM's contribution to the project will primarily be in work-packages 3 and 4 and will be supported by Dr Michiyo Iwami, a Research Associate.
