Angela Kearns
Dr Angela Kearns has over 25 years experience in clinical diagnostic microbiology. Whilst working in Newcastle PHL, she developed a particular interest in molecular techniques, resulting in her setting up a molecular diagnostics facility in Newcastle. Subsequently, her activities centred around the development and application of novel molecular techniques for the rapid diagnosis, characterisation and typing of a broad spectrum of microbial pathogens. In 2002, she moved to Colindale in London (now known as Health Protection Agency, Centre for Infections) where she is Head of the Staphylococcus Reference Unit for England & Wales, and has developed a keen interest in the pathogenicity, epidemiology and dynamics of staphylococcal disease in healthcare and community settings.
With her colleague Androulla Efstratiou, she is collaborating with the Centre in work-stream 2: Network in Clinical Infection, working alongside Professor Shiranee Sriskandan and Professor Kathy Bamford
