Dr Rosa Coello (MD MSc) is a Healthcare Epidemiologist and honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer with Imperial College. Her NHS role at Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust, is to lead the Epidemiology and Information Team of the Department of Infection Prevention and Control.
Her role with Workstream 3 (Infection & Surveillance) of CIPM, invovles working closely with the Information Technology staff. This collaboration is focussed on developing the linkage of established electronic database, such as pharmacy prescribing data, microbiology and radiology results, patient discharge summaries and surgical databases, to refine the accelerated, cost-efficient system – already initiated at the Trust – for the surveillance of HCAIs. Rosa is presently developing a system for the determination of the hospital-wide prevalence of device-related infections, which are largely preventable.
Background
Rosa has experience as both an Infection Control doctor, and as a Consultant Epidemiologist for the Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Unit of the Public Health Laboratory Service (now part of the HPA), she develops surveillance systems of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) for the Trust using existing databases.
Rosa has a particular interest in surveillance systems that can be used for comparative purposes. She also oversee the interpretation and enhancement of the Trust’s mandatory surveillance of HCAIs, e.g. MRSA, Clostridium difficile, etc. Iand is making special reference to comparative data from other similar UK hospitals. In addition, Rosa has a research interest in the epidemiology of multiresistent organisms
