Lydia Drumright
is a lecturer in CIPM. Her research focuses on behavioural epidemiology for the prevention of infectious diseases (see more details on Lydia’s research and support of work-stream 1). In addition to her research, Lydia supports work-stream 4, capacity building and education, through teaching MSc and doctoral students.

Lydia has extensive teaching experience and course development in infectious diseases, statistics, and public health methodology. Her PhD training was in Infectious Disease Epidemiology and she holds an MPH in Health Education and Community Health and a BSc in Biochemistry and Cellular Biology.  Lydia utilizes her experiences as a student, instructor and researcher to continually refine her teaching to provide students with the most useful learning experience possible. Currently, she delivers teaching in epidemiology and basic statistics on a number of MSc courses. In her lectures, Lydia focuses on applied methods and analyses, in order to better tailor the classroom experience for the greatest applicability to students’ careers. Lydia encourages learning through practice and experience. She is a member of the MSc management board for newly emerging MSc courses in work-stream 4, and develops course work in her area of expertise.

Lydia has engaged in teaching since 1998 and has taught a variety of different courses and students. She has taught doctoral and medical students at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) through research supervision and course work in Epidemiology and Emerging Infectious Diseases, and developed new courses for these students in the School of Medicine.  She has taught Masters in Public Health (MPH) and doctoral students in Epidemiology and statistical applications of SAS and SPSS at San Diego State University (SDSU) Graduate School of Public Health and supervised MPH students in thesis and field work. She developed and taught undergraduate courses in Evaluation and Measurement of Public Health Programs and Sexually Transmitted Infections at SDSU. Additionally, Lydia was a member of the steering committee for a Joint Program in Global Health at UCSD and SDSU. She views teaching and learning as partnerships with research and community building.
