TB Diagnosis

Dr David Moore and his team won the Medical Futures Award 2005 for a new test to diagnose active TB. MODS (Microscopic Drug Observation Susceptibility) provides rapid inexpensive detection of TB.

Clinical Academic

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunity were finalists in the Hospital Doctor Academic Team of the Year Award.

New Treatment

Congratulations Prof Sunil Shaunak, whose new treatment for hepatitis C is in production. The British High Commissioner Sir Michael Arthur said, “This ... is a shining example of how exciting innovation in our best universities can be rapidly turned into new and useful global healthcare”. 

 

TB Transmission

Dr Rod Escombe's award

Dr Rod Escombe recently won first and second prize for the VII national Awards for Health, Peru. Rod is currently a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow investigating the prevention of airborne TB transmission in Lima’s hospitals.
