PhD Studentships and Admission

If you are a student considering applying for a PhD it is important to make contact with a proposed supervisor or research group and to obtain their preliminary informal acceptance of you.  The next stage is to apply online at http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/pgprospectus/howtoapply

Please note:

  • you must supply the names of two academic referees, academic, clinical or professional.  A reference from the proposed supervisor is not acceptable.  References must be submitted by email from an institutional email account (no personal accounts such as Gmail or Hotmail) or by post or fax, signed and on headed paper.
  • Once accepted by the Department, the registry will make the student an offer of admission.
  • Students may be required to provide evidence of: academic attainment (via transcripts), confirmation of funding for the entire period of registration.  Please see the Requirements for Graduate Studies page for further information.
  • Evidence of English language proficiency.  Please see the English language requirements page for more details.
  • Members of college staff who are intending to register for a higher degree, should make an appointment to see our Programme Manager Research Degrees, Ms Hayley Kendall at h.kendall@imperial.ac.uk as soon as they begin.

3 or 4 Year MRC-funded PhD Studentships

MRC Research Studentships enable graduates with excellent honours degrees to undertake a three to four year training programme, that includes a research project plus training in research methods and transferable key skills, leading to the submission of a doctoral thesis and the award of a PhD.  For more information please click here. The Wellcome Trust 4-Year PhD Training Programme in the Molecular &Cellular Basis of Infection

A particular strength of Imperial College lies in the field of Infection research, in which there is a rich and diverse portfolio of expertise with internationally competitive groups working within many Divisions and Departments. 3 Year PhD Studentship in Obesity

Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD studentship to work in the Section of Investigative Science, Imperial College London, Hammersmith Campus.  The project will focus on Determining the pathways by which protein regulates appetite. For further information, please click PhD Studentship with Dr Kevin Murphy .

3 Year PhD Studentship in Appetite Regulation and Obesity

3/4 Year PhD Studentship in Obesity

Applications are invited for a 3 or 4 -year PhD studentship to work in the Section of Investigative Science,  Imperial College London, Hammersmith Campus.  The project will be on Genetic dissection of neuronal pathways controlling appetite regulation. 3 Year PhD Studentship, Neuropathology

Applications are invited for a 3 year PhD studentship in the Section of Microbiology, Imperial College London, Charing Cross Campus. It will initially use a metabolomics approach to dissect metabolic differences between ASS1-negative and positive tumours.
