Magdalena Gierula is a Research Technician for the Centre for Infection Prevention and Management (CIPM).  She provides up-to-date technical expertise, advice and support in proteomics for the laboratory-based research programme of work-stream 2 “clinical network of infection diagnostics, which aims to determine the protein constituents of various bacterial preparations including Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium difficile.

Magdalena’s specific duties include identification of proteins by mass spectrometry preparing synthetic peptides necessary for antibody production, assisting in the analysis of antibodies by western blotting and ELISA and maintaining the relevant data records.  She also has responsibility for the day-to-day co-ordination, running and maintenance of the mass spectroscopy equipment and peptide synthesis robot used by the group.

Magdalena is based primarily in the Laboratory of Dr Rob Edwards, a CIPM collaborator based in Experimental Medicine and Toxicology, where protein analysis is centred.  She therefore works between the Experimental Medicine laboratory and the category 2 Infectious Diseases laboratory which is based on the same site.
