The MRes in Translational Medicine is a full-time/part-time course with a three-month lecture programme followed by two research projects. This innovative MRes programme capitalises on the excellence in experimental medicine and clinical research at Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
The aim of the course is to equip students with an understanding of the tools available for experimental medicine. Knowing the opportunities and limitations of the technology, students will understand how it can be deployed to address a clinical question in a clinical research protocol.
The course is suitable for all medical disciplines, but of particular interest to:
- Cardiovascular/Respiratory
- Neuroscience
- Oncology/Metabolic medicine
Eminent investigators from academia and industry with diverse backgrounds from systems biology through clinical pharmacoimaging to specific medical disciplines (cardiovascular/respiratory, neurology/psychiatry and oncology/metabolic medicine) will provide guidance on a variety of topics embraced by Translational Medicine in plenary sessions, seminars and networking. Basic and clinical research infrastructure provide an excellent environment for advanced hands-on training in the theoretical and practical aspects of clinical research .
The course is designed to cater for UK and international students. It is highly suitable for graduates in medicine who wish to pursue careers as clinical academics (such as Academic Clinical Fellows) and for medical professionals in industry. Basic Scientists with a degree in life sciences are also welcome to apply. This course intends to develop highly skilled and motivated academic clinical scientists for the future.
