Dr Christine McCartney (OBE) is working closely with Prof Jon Friedland and Susan Farrell in Work-stream 4: Capacity Building.  In particular Christine has been working with the Centre to develop a series of rolling courses across the various HPA regional offices. These courses will be delivered by local experts to a wide audience of medical and non-medical personnel. They will be designed to address the most topical issues at time of delivery.

 

Background

Christine graduated in microbiology from Glasgow University. After a Wellcome Foundation Research Fellowship she was appointed to a lecturer post, then senior lecturer post in the medical school, at Glasgow University. In the mid 1990’s she moved to a senior role in the Public Health Laboratory Service at Colindale eventually becoming Deputy Director. In September 2006 she became Executive Director of the HPA Regional Microbiology Network. Since 2007 she has been executive Lead for the HPA Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance Programme. She is co-author of a textbook “Notes on Medical Microbiology” which has recently been updated recently.
