Background

Dr Joanna Brown qualified from King’s College School of Medicine & Dentistry,University of London. She was awarded membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1997 and trained in Respiratory and General Medicine in Wessex Deanery. She was awarded an MD by the University of Southampton in 2004 for her research on the effects of air pollution on asthma.

In 2005, Joanna was appointed as a Respiratory Consultant at Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust – ICHNT- since 2007). In 2009 she was awarded an MSc (with distinction) in Quality and Safety in Healthcare from Imperial College, London. Joanna’s expertise in Quality and Safety together with her clinical interest in non-invasive ventilation (NIV) and her role as lead consultant for Acute Medicine, lead to the development of an interest in the clinical recognition of the deteriorating patient. She chairs the ICHNT Critical Illness Quality and Safety group, sits on the Trust Risk Committee and is lead for the Trust’s IHI Global Trigger Tool project.

Joanna enjoys teaching undergraduates and postgraduates about aspects of clinical governance.
