She has an interest in Paediatric Urology and has completed a year at Great Ormond Street Hospital for sick Children. Shabnam was a key member of the department from Feb 2003-Feb 2006 while she was working towards her PhD entitled “Team Performance in the Operating Theatre”. This was awarded to her through Imperial College London in 2007. Her supervisors for her Thesis were Professor Charles Vincent and Lord Ara Darzi.
During her research time in the unit she completed additional research project “Estimating hazards of Healthcare in developing countries” with funding from the WHO as part of the World Alliance on Patient Safety. This project entailed liaising with the WHO, setting up a research project in India, employing researchers to collect the data, coordinating activities between the research workers and the WHO and meeting key healthcare professionals and government officials .
As a Research Fellow Shabnam has had the opportunity to develop links and collaborations with a number of national and international departments and educational bodies such as the NPSA, RCS and DoH.
