Professor René Amalberti
Professor René Amalberti
Professor of Physiology, Neuroscience and Ergonomics
Professor René Amalberti was trained initially as a psychiatrist. He was the Chair in Physiology, Neuroscience and Ergonomics at the Military Hospital of Val-de-Grâce for 15 years before retiring in 2008. Dr. Amalberti’s research interests focus on human error management and prevention, and risk control at the level of individuals, groups, and systems. Since 1999, he has been a member of the French National Program for Cognitive Science. From 1992 to 2000 Dr. Amalberti served as chair of the European Joint Aviation Authorities Human Factors Steering Group. He is now working part time as Senior Advisor Patient Safety at the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) and part time as the person in charge of prevention strategies in a medical insurance organisation (MACSF). Dr. Amalberti has published widely on risk management and control.

Professor Nick Barber is a former hospital pharmacist who has been studying aspects of safety related to medicines, including the role of technology, for twenty years. His work on improving adherence is about to launched as the New Medicines Service across England. He is a former Vice-President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and a gold medal winner for his lifetime contribution to hospital pharmacy; he has recently been seen on television presenting BBC2’s Victorian Pharmacy.

Dr. Bob Wachter, is one of the leading authorities on patient safety and quality in the world. He is author of two books on the topic, edits the U.S. federal government's two leading safety websites, and is a recipient of the John M. Eisenberg award, the top honour in patient safety in the U.S. He also coined the term "hospitalist" and is the leading figure in this field, the fastest growing specialty in American medical history.
