Postgraduate Clinical Academic Training Committee

Main terms of reference

To provide the focus for discussion and development of Faculty programmes for clinical academic training schemes, including:

• development of posts to compete for national programmes (MMC and others as may be developed), and overseeing Faculty applications for such schemes, currently including
  • Academic Clinical Fellows
  • Clinical Lecturers
  • New Blood Clinical Senior Lecturers
• identification of clear academic training paths in consultation with clinical academic speciality leaders
• liaison with the GSLSM and other College units for identification and provision of appropriate training programmes where required
• oversight of career management issues, and their integration into the spectrum of clinical academic training programmes, in line with DoH/MMC guidelines.

To develop with local NHS Trusts and the Postgraduate Deaners the local academic F1/F2 training paths, linked through the Undergraduate Medicine Office who manage the Foundation Years School for NW London, and relevant UG Medcine committees.

To advise and recommend to PAG and its relevant committees

• on the management of the training programmes for the new posts
  • Academic Clincial Fellows
  • Clinical Lecturers
  • New Blood Senior Lecturers
  • Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD and Translational Medicine Fellows
• on the recruitment, selection, assessment and general staff development issues arising from these new schemes, including any necessary adaptation of Faculty policies or development of relationships with local NHS Trusts, Royal Colleges or the Postgraduate Deanery.

To advise PAG and its relevant Committees on any future natioanl schemes which may link to the clinical academic training initiatives, and recommend Faculty responses to such schemes.

To review membership and terms of reference annually.

Meeting frequency

At least three times a year, but more frequently in initial phase.
