Molecular Therapy Group

MRC%20CSC%20logoA major focus of the group is the development of positron emission tomography (PET) methodology to study gene expression, cellular proliferation, apoptosis, cell surface receptor activity, intracellular signalling, thymidylate synthase inhibition, and angiogenesis. We also have projects that utilise other in vivo imaging modalities including magnetic resonance spectroscopy & imaging (MRS/MRI), and bioluminescence. A major strength of the group is the combination of novel imaging methodology with molecular analysis of target activity or modulation in cell systems, rodent models of cancer and cancer patients.

Research interests are as follows:

  • To develop novel imaging probes for detection of biochemical and physiological processes in cancer

  • To investigate in vivo biochemical and physiological processes in animal models and humans using mathematical modelling approaches

  • To apply imaging probes in translational cancer research for the evaluation of in vivo functional genomics and for drug development

  • To train the next generation of in vivo scientists

More information about the group is available on our CSC web page.
