Ms Alexandra Haighton

 I have come to you directly from working for an International Charity where I was the Head of Development overseeing amongst other things HR, IT, finance, strategic planning and a large building project. 
I started my career with a BSc in Biological Science, swiftly followed by a number of years working in South East Asia.  I returned to the UK and continued my studies with an MSc in International Development from Bath University. After graduating I spent a number of years working for various international charities including Christian Aid, CAFOD and a coral conservation initiative in SE Asia.

Manager of Department of Primary Care and Public Health

Alexandra Joined the Department of Primary Care and Public Health in 2008 as Department Manager. Alexandra is responsible for people, grant management, budgets and spending commitments for the Department including the Doctor Foster Unit, WHO Collaborating Centre, Primary Care and Public Health Undergraduate Education, and the ESRC funded International Centre for Life Studies. Alexandra works closely with Investigators to create, edit and cost research proposals to help bring in research grants successfully to the department and then to maintain projects under tight cost and delivery disciplines. She is also responsible for the 8 research and teaching unit administrators in the Department as well as overseeing approximately 30 PhD students, and many visiting students and researchers. She focuses on ensuring a collaborative working environment.

Alexandra graduated from Birmingham University with a BSc in Biolog y (Zoology). After working abroad for some years, in Africa and South East Asia, returned to the UK to gain a MSc in International Development (Economics) from Bath University in 2000. After a few years working for an International NGO moved to Imperial College in 2008.
