Miss Amalia De luca

Amalia de Luca is a PhD student in the Intracellular Signalling group, headed by Dr Paul Evans at the National Heart and Lung Institute.

Before joining Imperial College London, Amalia obtained her Bachelor and Master degrees in Medical Engineering at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” with a score of 110/110.

In 2009, she was a visiting student in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London where she did her Master’s thesis project on geometric characterization and fluid dynamics analysis of the aorto-iliac bifurcation.

She was then awarded a four-year MRes/PhD studentship from the British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence. In October 2010 she successfully passed the MRes with distinction (supervised by Dr Evans and Prof Rob Krams) and she started a PhD under the supervision of Dr Evans and Prof Spencer Sherwin.

Amalia’s current research focuses on the signalling pathways that regulate cell viability in endothelial cells and how mechanical forces extered by flowing blood on arteries can alter this process.
