Miss Andrea Bauer
Andrea is a PhD student in the Endothelial Cell Cytoprotection Group within the National Heart and Lung Institute.
Prior to commencing her PhD, Andrea completed her BSc at the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Germany, and was also awarded an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. In 2008 she then moved to Imperial College London for her Masters degree in Molecular Medicine where she completed a research project within Prof Justin Mason’s laboratory investigating the role of nuclear receptors and their co-regulators in endothelial homeostasis. Andrea was awarded her MSc degree with distinction.
Andrea was awarded a National Heart and Lung Institute Foundation PhD studentship in 2009 and is continuing her work in Prof Mason’s group, looking at the role of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in angiogenesis. Her main focus is to identify signalling mechanisms through which HO-1 exerts its actions in this process.
