Dr David W Connell
Dr. David Connell is an MRC-funded clinical research training fellow in the Tuberculosis Research Unit at the National Heart and Lung Institute and an Honorary Specialist Registrar at St. Mary’s Hospital.
David gained a 1st class Honours degree in Physiology from the University of Cambridge before qualifying in Medicine from the University of Oxford in 2004. He undertook house jobs in Oxford and Reading before senior house officer posts in London at Northwick Park Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital.
He was awarded an NIHR funded Academic Clinical Fellowship in Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College in 2008 and spent the following two and a half years in early specialist training in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine and St. Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals. During this time he spent 6 months working in the Tuberculosis Research Unit, and developed clinical research projects in TB and respiratory infection at St. Mary’s Hospital with Dr. Onn Min Kon.
He is now undertaking a PhD in Professor Ajit Lalvani’s group examining the role of innate and adaptive pulmonary immune responses in shaping the spectrum of latent tuberculosis infection.
