Dinesh Shrikrishna is a Respiratory Specialist Registrar and Clinical Research Fellow at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
After completing an Intercalated BSc in Physiology with First Class Honours, he went on to graduate in Medicine with Distinction from King’s College London.
Dinesh trained as a junior doctor at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and University Hospital Lewisham and undertook his general medical training at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. After being awarded Membership to the Royal College of Physicians in 2005, Dinesh trained in respiratory medicine at the Royal Brompton Hospital before being appointed as a Respiratory Registrar in the South West of England Deanery.
Dinesh is currently completing his clinical PhD in the Muscle Laboratory at the Brompton Campus, within the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London.
Under the supervision of Dr Nicholas Hopkinson, Professor Michael Polkey and Dr Paul Kemp, he is undertaking a Medical Research Council funded clinical trial investigating the effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition on mechanisms of skeletal muscle dysfunction in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). By identifying key molecular pathways responsible for muscle weakness in this patient group, his work aims to translate to the development of adjunctive treatments to existing exercise-based therapies such as pulmonary rehabilitation.
Alongside his PhD, Dinesh has an active role in undergraduate medical student teaching at Imperial College and is also a specialist registrar member on the Standards of Care Committee of the British Thoracic Society.
