During her studies Elisa was granted the Humboldt - University Fellowship, which enabled her to conduct her undergraduate research project on murine autoimmune gastritis at the University of Melbourne. In 2009 Elisa undertook her masters thesis focussing on post-transcriptional regulation of Y-box binding protein 1 expression at the Charité - University Hospital of Berlin.
Elisa was awarded a National Heart and Lung Institute Foundation studentship with which she joined the group of Professor Schneider in October 2009 as a PhD Student working on transcriptional mechanisms in adult cardiac progenitor cells. Her main focus is the investigation of potential mechanisms that prevent these progenitor cells from differentiating into cardiomyocytes.
