Erica is a PhD student in the Platelet Biology group, Molecular Medicine Section, National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI).
Erica graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2010 with a degree in Physiology (BSc) where her final year research project was titled Postural Stability and the Influence of Age.
Following this, Erica undertook an MRes in Experimental Physiology and Drug Discovery with the Centre for Integrative Mammalian Physiology and Pharmacology at Imperial College London which she obtained with distinction. She conducted her Masters research project with Dr. Michael Emerson and the platelet biology group at NHLI, investigating the effects of caloxins on platelet function in vivo.
Erica was awarded a 3 year studentship by the NHLI Foundation to study at NHLI, Imperial and has continued to work with the platelet biology group in collaboration with the Lung Cell Biology Group. She has developed an interest in nanotoxicology and is currently looking at the effects of particulate air pollutants on platelet function in vivo and in vitro.
