Dr Federico Roncaroli

Dr Federico Roncaroli joined the Department of Neuropathology at Imperial College in 2003 as Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Neuropathology. Before joining Imperial, Dr Roncaroli trained as histopathologist at the University of Turin. In 1992, he became Consultant Histopathologist at Institute of Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology, Bellaria Hospital, University of Bologna where he gained experience in the field of surgical neuropathology and particularly in brain tumours and pituitary pathology.
In 1998, he spent a period as visiting clinician at the Department of Pathology, at Mayo Clinic, Rochester Minnesota working with professor Bernd Scheithauer (http://cancercenter.mayo.edu/mayo/research/staff/scheithauer_bw.cfm). At Imperial College, Dr Roncaroli is in charge of diagnostic surgical neuropathology and of the diagnosis of muscle and nerve pathology. He is also involved the diagnostic work-up of the brains donated to the UK Parkinson’s Disease Tissue Bank (http://www.parkinsonstissuebank.org.uk/) and to the UK Multiple Sclerosis Tissue Bank (http://www.ukmstissuebank.imperial.ac.uk).
His major research interests are in brain tumours and pituitary tumours. In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr Roncaroli has recently created a Brain Tumour Registry and he has significantly contributed to the creation of a Brain Tumour Tissue Bank at the Charing Cross Hospital, which are both supported by the Charity BRTC (http://www.wayahead-btrc.org/).
