Miss Hayley Mylroie

Hayley is a PhD student in the Endothelial Cell Cytoprotection Group within the National Heart and Lung Institute.

Prior to commencing her PhD Hayley completed her BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Reading, graduating in 2008 with First class honours.  While studying at the University of Reading she  was awarded a Wellcome Trust Summer Scholarship to undertake a 10 week project investigating the effect of various chemical agonists on platelet thrombus formation.

In 2009 she was awarded an Arthritis Research UK PhD fellowship within Professor Justin Mason's laboratory at Imperial College London, where she is currently continuing her research into the cytoprotective actions of the signalling kinase PKC epsilon. The main focus of which is to identify the signalling pathways through which PKC epsilon exerts its cytoprotective effects on the vascular endothelium, and to determine its potential role as a therapeutic target. Vascular endothelial cell injury is a common feature of systemic inflammatory diseases and has been associated with accelerated atherosclerosis.
