Dr Irem S Patel

Dr Irem Patel, PhD MRCP, is a Consultant in Integrated Respiratory Care at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. 

Integrated respiratory care refers to the holistic, coordinated, patient focused and multidisciplinary delivery of high quality care (both pharmacological and non-pharmacological) at all stages of the natural history of disease. It encompasses disease prevention and promotion of lung health, enhanced case finding, monitoring and education, coordination of hospital and community care and its standardisation using evidence-based guidelines.

Dr Patel works jointly across primary and secondary care in West London to trial, evaluate and deliver improved pathways of care for patients with chronic respiratory disease. Her research interests also include mechanisms of exacerbations in COPD, respiratory failure and domiciliary non-invasive ventilation.
