Mr Jonas Lexow

Jonas is a PhD student at the National Heart and Lung Institute in Prof. Nadia Rosenthal’s laboratory, investigating mechanisms of cardiac repair. 

Jonas began his undergraduate degree at the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in 2005 before leaving Germany in 2007 for his final year studies at the University of Aberdeen. During his final year research project he investigated Wnt signalling in the nematode C. elegans. At the end of this term he was awarded a degree in Genetics (Immunology) from the University of Aberdeen and a degree in Applied Biology from the University of Applied Sciences Bonn- Rhein-Sieg. For his bachelor thesis he received the prize of the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg for an outstanding thesis.

In 2008, he joined Professor Nadia Rosenthal’s research group based at the Harefield Heart Science Centre. His work mainly focuses on mIGF-1 and thymosin β4 and their respective signalling pathways and how they can influence cardiac recovery after infarct.

In February 2010 he obtained a Keystone scholarship to present his current work in at the symposium in Colorado.
