Dr Lydia R Durant
Lydia is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Peter Openshaw's group. She is studying the role of regulatory T (Treg) cells and regulatory mechanisms in the lung at homeostasis and during acute RSV infection.
Lydia obtained her PhD in Pathology from the University of Oxford in 2010. She performed collaborative work in Prof. Fiona Powrie's Group at Oxford and Dr. John O'Shea's group at the National Insititutes of Health (NIH) and studied the roles of STAT3 and STAT5 in intestinal immune regulation. She was awarded a Fellows Award for Research Excellence (FARE) Award from the NIH in 2009 for this work. Prior to this, she worked as a Postbaccalaureate Research Fellow at the NIH in Dr. O'Shea's group and studied the role of Tpl-2 kinase in IL-12-induced IFN-g production and Th1-type immunity. She completed her B.A. in Biology with honors at Colby College, USA in 2005. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded membership in the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
