Louisa Gnatiuc

With over 15 years of experience in acute medicine and medical research in Europe and humanitarian public health projects in Africa, Louisa is passionate about improving health at population level.

After completing an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2006, she has joined the Respiratory Epidemiology and Public Health Group as research integration co-ordinator of the GA2LEN epidemiological studies across Europe.  Her specific role involved co-ordination of a case-control study on asthma and blood selenium levels, co-ordination of a large population survey on asthma and atopies and collaborative research on the association of asthma and puberty. After that, she worked with the Medical Research Council as study manager of a national cohort looking at the natural history of HIV in volunteers from over 120 NHS clinics across the UK.

Louisa is now the co-ordinator for the Burden of Lung Disease Study, a global initiative looking at the prevalence of COPD and the distribution of its risk factors. Her role involves training in research methodology,co-ordination of fieldwork and collaboration to analysis and publication of BOLD data.

Louisa’s interests are population surveys and longitudinal studies, public health implications of the epidemiology of COPD and asthma, translation of research into health policy and management of international epidemiological studies. Louisa is also interested in teaching and mentoring of students for reaching their full potential.  She speaks French and Portuguese and likes arts and photography.
