Dr Louise S Harrington
Louise Harrington has successfully developed an area of research within Cardiothoracic Pharmacology studying the smooth muscle function of vessels and airways.
She completed her PhD at Imperial College in 2001 under the supervision of Professor Alan Hughes. She then joined Professor Mitchell's group for her postdoctoral training. Dr Harrington then completed a second postdoctoral training with Professor Warner at the William Harvey Research Institute before rejoining Professor Mitchell's group to focus her research on understanding the role of COX-2 in cardiovascular health and disease.
Her research expertise extends into resistance vessel bioassay in vivo and in vitro with particular reference to the role the endothelium plays in responses. Dr Harrington has a list of highly specialized publications, including those which explain novel aspects of vasoactive mediator pharmacology.
Dr Harrington contributes significantly to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
