Dr Michael R Johnson
Dr Michael Johnson is Consultant Neurologist at Imperial College Healthcare and Honorary Reader in Neurogenetics at Imperial College. The long-term goal of his research is to identify the causal neurobiological pathways for epilepsy, including response to medication, using integrated genomics. His research is underpinned by prospective epilepsy datasets with a rich range of phenotype and drug response data, some of it time-varying. As Principal Investigator (PI), Dr Johnson coordinated the largest prospective pharmacogenetic cohort in epilepsy worldwide. He currently leads genome-wide association studies (including genome-wide CNV analyses) of susceptibility and drug response phenotypes in epilepsy as well as work aimed at developing genome-based predictive models for epilepsy outcome for use in specialist healthcare. His research has been funded by the Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council and Department of Health, among others. He is a Trustee of the Brain Tumour Research Campaign (www.wayahead-btrc.org) and member of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) Task Force on Pharmacogenetics.
