Mohamed H Shamji

Mohamed H Shamji is a clinical scientist in immunology working in the department of Allergy & Clinical Immunology at NHLI, Imperial College London.

Mohamed Shamji qualified as high-calibre scientist with BSc (Hons) in Immunology and MSc in Medical Immunology, awarded by the intercollegiate medical schools of the University of London. He underwent a comprehensive 5-year post-graduate clinical Immunology training scheme based at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Division of Immunology within the Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trusts and Imperial College London, with secondment training in many other specialist clinical immunology laboratories, including King’s College Hospital, St. George’s Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He successfully completed his training and received Certificate of Attainment following assessment by the Association of Clinical Scientists (ACS) and state registration by Health Professionals Council (HPC).

Mohamed is currently studying the functional role of serum inhibitory/blocking antibodies induced after grass pollen immunotherapy; primarily he is investigating the mechanisms of IgE-facilitated allergen binding and presentation. His thesis also examines whether simple immunoreactive IgG and/or ‘functional’ IgG antibodies assays are predictive as biomarkers of the clinical response to allergen immunotherapy in individual patients.

He is responsible for many quality issues in the research laboratory, including ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, developing, implementing, maintaining a quality management system and ensuring good laboratory practice (GLP). He is also responsible for the accreditation/certification process of the research laboratory where quality is assessed against internationally recognised standards to demonstrate competence, impartiality and performance capability.

Mr Mohamed Shamji is a member of British Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI), British Society of Immunologists (BSI), European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), Association of Clinical Scientists in Immunology (ACSI) and Association of Clinical Biochemists (ACB).
