Mr Michael K Tumilty
Michael Tumilty is the Senior Research Technician for the Respiratory Epidemiology and Public Health Group at NHLI.
Michael graduated in 1997 from University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) with an Honours degree in Applied Human Nutrition in 1997, and then worked as a researcher on the National Diet and Nutrition Survey: young people aged 4 to 18 years, the INTERMAP Study and the National Survey of Health and Development.
In 2001 Michael joined the Respiratory Epidemiology and Public Health Group and conducted a randomised controlled trial to investigate the effect of selenium supplementation on respiratory disease. Since then he has been involved in the preparation of study materials, the coordination of fieldwork, training of fieldworkers, maintenance of biological samples, and quality control for several epidemiological studies including, an international study of the association of selenium with asthma (SARI) and an international study of the epidemiology of asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis in adults (Ga2len). He is currently involved with the development of the third follow-up of the European Community Respiratory Health Survey (ECRHS III).
