Macide Artac

I am currently a PhD student in Department of Primary Care and Public Health. I joined Imperial for studying Masters in Public Health after completing BSc in Biomedical Sciences at University of Essex.

My research involves the evaluation of the NHS Health Checks programme that is administered under the local Quality Outcomes scheme (QOF+) in NHS Hammersmith and Fulham. I aim to look at the effectiveness of this programme on improving the clinical outcomes, e.g. reduction in cardiovascular disease risk. Primarly, I have looked at the completeness of patients electronic medical records for cardiovascular risk factors before programme implementation and analysed patient and practice level variations in the recording. This work will be followed by examining the uptake of the programme at both patient and practice level and by assessing the changes in risk factors and cardiovascular disease risk level in patients identified with high risk. Since my work involves examining data collected from NHS Hammersmith and Fulham and I hold an honorary contract in NHS Hammersmith and Fulham.

Apart from PhD, I involve in medical teaching as a tutor in first year Practice Based Learning classes, which gives me an insight into the academia.

I wish to share the findings of my project and collaborate with other researchers in similar fields; i.e. screening for cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and management of cardiovascular disease risk.
