Meng Li's research group, Stem Cell Neurogenesis, is based at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre on the Hammersmith Campus.

'Our group is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms underling neural fate specification during development and stem cell differentiation. We are particularly interested in transcription factors and signalling pathways that control differentiation of midbrain dopaminergic neurons, the type of cells that are lost in Parkinson’s disease patients. We aim to exploit knowledge obtained from these studies to develop novel strategies in harnessing and manipulating the differentiation potential of pluripotent stem cells and central nervous system neural stem cells, as our ability to control stem cell fate during differentiation will provide a foundation for developing new therapies for neurodegeneration.'
