Michelle Johnson is a Post-doctoral Research Associate funded by the British Heart Foundation Research Centre of Excellence Award. Her research post is inter-disciplinary and is divided between the Physiological Genomics and Medicine Group at Hammersmith Hospital and the Cardiac Regeneration Group at Harefield Hospital.
Dr Johnson studied Microbiology as an undergraduate at the University of California (Davis Campus) before spending 5 years as a Research Assistant working on the genetics of skeletal development at Stanford University. She relocated to Germany to work in the Genomics department of a Pharmaceutical company for nearly 3 years. After site closure, she moved to London to work as a research assistant in the Physiological Genomics and Medicine Group and began her PhD topic on the Genetic Analyses of Hypertension and Expression Quantitative Traits in the Spontaneously Hypertensive Rat for which a PhD was awarded in 2009.
Dr Johnson has extensive experience in molecular biology techniques which includes: real-time PCR, allele-specific PCR, congenic substitution mapping, microarray technologies and analysis. Her current research project utilizes next-generation sequencing technologies to determine methylation differences in the left ventricle of the Spontaneously Hypertensive rat and during Heart Failure.
