Dr Nick Sevdalis
Nick is an experimental psychologist, with a PhD on behavioural decision-making from UCL (2004). He is currently a Lecturer in Patient Safety in the Division of Surgery of Imperial College and leader of the Non-Technical Skills and Simulation Research Group. Prior to this appointment, Nick was a Lecturer appointed jointly between Imperial College and the R&D unit of the National Patient Safety Agency (2006-08), and a Post-doctoral Research Associate of the Imperial Department of Surgery (2004-06).
Nick’s primary interests focus on assessment and training of non-technical skills necessary for safe care delivery, mainly in surgical specialities. Nick has been leading the development of a number of assessment tools for use in surgery, including OTAS and NOTECHS. This work has resulted in numerous publications, as well as significant funding – including funding from the Association for Surgical Education (2008), MRC (2009), EPSRC (2008 & 2009), and the London Deanery (2010).
Nick is supervising a number of clinical and non-clinical doctoral and other postgraduate (MSc, MEd) students and regularly lectures on non-technical skills assessment and training, and on applied statistics.
