Dr Paolo A Muraro
A medical graduate from University of Rome "La Sapienza", Dr Muraro trained in clinical neurology and neuroimmunology in Italy and at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health, United States.
Dr Muraro's research focuses on understanding the pathogenesis of inflammatory neurological diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis (MS), and on developing effective therapies.
His scientific contributions include the characterization of immune responses to myelin proteins, studies of T cell repertoire in health and autoimmune disease, and the elucidation of the mechanisms of action of immuno-modulatory treatments and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in MS. A recent study providing the first demonstration of immune renewal in patients treated with HSCT has been highlighted in editorials and press commentaries including the Dana Foundation Progress Report on Brain Research 2006. http://www.dana.org/news/publications/detail.aspx?id=4226
