Dr Paolo Paredi

Dr Paolo Paredi is a senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Airway Disease Section, at the National Heart and Lung Institute and Honorary Physician at Royal Brompton Hospital, London.

He qualified at the University of Milan, and moved to London after being appointed a consultant post in the north of Italy. He has published over 30 peer-review papers on asthma, COPD and related topics as a first author and written five book chapters. He also serves as a reviewer of the major respiratory journals and supervised PhD students successfully.

His research is focused on non-invasive assessment of airway inflammation and breath analysis in lung disease. He has developed a number of novel methods to study airway inflammation such as exhaled breath temperature and the measurement of exhaled ethane. More recently he has been involved in the assessment of small airway function using impulse oscillometry. These techniques have provided novel insights into common airway diseases.
