Dr Roxana Alexandrescu

I am a medical doctor from Romania, specialist in public health. In 2009 I joined Dr Foster Unit at Imperial College as a Research Assistant. I am assisting Professor Brian Jarman in developing an international Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratios model for comparisons of healthcare performance using hospital data from several countries. My work includes calculating adjusted hospital death rates and updating binary logistic regression and multiple regression models to explain variations of HSMRs throughout the USA.

In 2001 I completed a MPH at the Netherlands School of Public Health with a thesis focused on reproductive health - adolescent unwanted pregnancy. I am studying for a PhD at the University of Manchester – School of Translational Medicine. The aim of my thesis is to provide population based rates of major trauma in England using a novel epidemiological approach that relies on the American Health Economics concept of ‘hospital market area’.

Research interests include risk adjustment methods, data quality analysis and linkage techniques, descriptive and analytical epidemiological studies
