Professor Stefan Grimm

I have been working on apoptosis, the genetically programmed cell death, for the last 12 years. My group has established a genetic screen for the isolation of apoptosis-inducing genes and has characterised several genes with this approach. Some of them are activated by cell damage, others are involved in a variety of human diseases ranging from tumourigenesis to degenerative heart diseases. The focus of the laboratory is on the elucidation of the signalling pathways initiated by these genes and how they eventually cause the destruction of the cell.
