Ms Sophia Hodgson

Sophia Hodgson is a PhD student within the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.  She is based in industry with the Veterinary Laboratories Agency in Weybridge, Surrey.

Sophia graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2006 with a BSc in Zoology.  After working in the veterinary pharmaceutical field for two years she decided to undertake an MSc at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the Immunology of Infectious Disease.

Sophia started her PhD in October 2009 investigating the host response secretome to M. bovis infection in cattle to define biomarkers of infection and protection induced by BCG vaccination.  She is using proteomics approaches; such as Mass Spectroscopy, to define differences between treatment groups in the hope of improving diagnostics and defining reliable biomarkers of vaccine protection in Tuberculosis that will be applicable to both veterinary and human medical fields.
