Dr Susanne Knapp

Dr Susanne Knapp is a post-doctoral Researcher in the Department of Medicine, Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology and Metabolism, Imperial College, London.

She obtained her PhD in Molecular Genetics at the University of Koeln and the Max-Planck-Institute for Plant Breeding Research working on transposon induced mutagenesis in plants.

After post-doctoral experience working in the biotechnology department of Unilever and Whitbread she joined Imperial College in 1993 to work on Host Genetic factors affecting the outcome of Hepatitis C infection. She discovered and characterized a chemical induced mutation in the gene for the Gabrb1 receptor of mice, which is responsible for alcohol preference. She then joined the Immunology group where she further investigates  genetic factors involved in the immune response following HCV infection.

She is also a collaborator in the Imperial College "Beautiful Science" project, which is aimed at communicating scientific findings through art.
