Dr Stephen Lui

Stephen Lui is a Research Assistant at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.

Dr Lui studied for his degree in Pharmacology at the King’s College London. During that undergraduate, he completed an industrial work placement in an Oxford biotech company developing murine tumour models and screening anti-tumour drugs.

He subsequently studied a DPhil/PhD at University of Oxford where he developed two transgenic mice models overexpressing angiogenic genes. He showed that early expression of VEGF in the brain causes malformations in neuronal migration, neuronal loss and epilepsy.

After his PhD he joined at Ferring Research Ltd as a Senior Research scientist in the Pharmacology department. There he developed several models of human diseases in order to study the actions of novel drugs. He was also a study director to external studies liaising and collaborating with academic departments and CRO’s.

Dr Lui moved back to academia where he is working with Professor Clare Lloyd and Dr Sejal Saglani studying neonatal murine models of asthma, with a particular focus on mechanisms of onset of airway remodeling and disease modifying therapies for childhood asthma.
