Dr Silene T Wavre
Silene Wavre-Shapton is a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Professor Miguel Seabra in the department of Molecular Medicine, National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
Silene Wavre-Shapton graduated from the University of Geneva. She then completed her PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology in 2007 at UCL, under the supervision of Professor Mark Marsh at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular and Cellular Biology. While studying the Endocytic Regulation of Chemokine Receptor Expression Dr. Wavre-Shapton deepened her knowledge in membrane traffic and acquired expertise in cellular imaging, in particular light and electron microscopy.
Dr. Wavre-Shapton is currently studying membrane traffic in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). She is specifically interested in the daily phagocytosis of photoreceptor outersegments, a process essential for vision, and in the defects in membrane traffic leading to RPE degeneration in diseases such as Choroideremia.
