Dr Saffron A Willis-Owen
Saffron Willis-Owen is a Post-doctoral Research Associate in the Molecular Genetics Group at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London. Dr Willis-Owen studied Experimental Psychology as an undergraduate at Pembroke College, Oxford, before undertaking doctoral research investigating the genetic architecture of psychiatric traits at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (part of the Department of Clinical Medicine at Oxford University). Her current position within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London leverages recently developed genome-wide techniques against a range of multi-factorial diseases including asthma and atopic dermatitis. Her research interests include:
(a) The use of genetic association to dissect the heritable portion of disease susceptibility, as well as the application of convergent cross-species conservation and disease co-morbidity data to aid locus detection.
(b) The use of genome-wide expression data to characterize perturbations associated with disease; both in terms of differential expression and differential connectivity. In particular her interests include the development of transcript networks, and the identification of modules that may be associated with different disease and/or cellular states.
