Ms Siti Sarah Affendi
Siti Sarah Affendi is a PhD student in the Viral Immunology research group, National Heart and Lung Institute.
Sarah received her first degree in 2004 from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, studying Microbiology. Upon graduation, she served Selangor Medical Centre as a Medical Laboratory Technologist/ Microbiologist for 3 years. Then, she joined SA Laboratory Services as Laboratory Manager for a year. Sarah was awarded the Maxis Scholarship for Excellence Award (MSEA) in 2008 with which she undertook the MSc in Molecular Biology and Pathology of Viruses at Imperial College London and joined Professor Peter Openshaw’s group for a 6 months research attachment working on harnessing invariant NKT cells in respiratory infection.
In 2010, Sarah was again awarded the MSEA to join Professor Openshaw’s Viral Immunology Group in the Department of Respiratory Medicine, National Heart and Lung Institute as a PhD student working on alveolar macrophages and the control of inflammation in the RSV infection.
