Mr Thomas Carlisle
Tom Carlisle is a research postgraduate with the Sleep and Ventilation Group at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
Prior to undertaking his PhD Tom completed a BSc in Sport Science at Kingston University and a MSc in Human and Applied Physiology at King's College London that was part-funded by a grant from the Colt Foundation. Tom's MSc was focused on cardio-respiratory and muscle physiology as well as physiology in extreme environments.
Tom is currently researching the mechanisms of sleep apnoea in heart failure patients with a focus on upper airway physiology and mechanics. Sleep apnoea is very prevalent among heart failure patients but its causes are not very well understood. It is hoped that better understanding of these causes will lead to more targeted and effective treatment.
